Armand McCormick

OWNER, HEAD COACH, MA, CSCS, USAW, CFL1, CFCPC, USATFL1, CPT

Before earning his BA and MA in Exercise Science Armand served more than 4 years in the US MC as a infantryman. While serving, Armand recieved many awards and honors. He is the Director of XL Sports Acceleration. Armand is a CrossFit Level I Coach and holds many other strength and conditioning certifications as well. Armand placed 3rd in the North Central Regional in 2011 and finished tied for 23rd in the 2011 Reebok CrossFit Games. He competed on CrossFit Kilo’s Regional Team in 2013, 2014, 2016, and 2017, and Kilo’s CrossFit Games Team from 2013-2015. In 2017 Armand competed as a Masters Athlete in the 2017 CrossFit Games. Armand does the programming for CrossFit Kilo and 2.2. Programming is done from an extensive background of education and personal/professional experience. Armand has worked with multiple college teams at UNI and countless Div.I individual athletes.

Sarah McCormick

OWNER, BA, CFL1, USATFL1

Sarah, a former Division I track athlete at the University of Northern Iowa found her love for CrossFit in 2009. She has earned her BA in Exercise Science from UNI and is a CrossFit Level I Coach.  Sarah competed with CrossFit Kilo at the Reebok CrossFit Games in 2012 (8th place finish) and 2013 (6th place finish).  You can contact Sarah at [email protected]

Travis Hansen

BA | MA | USAW

After graduating from Waterloo West High-School Travis attended the University of Northern Iowa where he received his BA and MA in Exercise Science. Travis served as the GA strength and conditioning coach for the U.N.I. volleyball team as well as Waterloo East High-School. Megan Timmins

BA | MA | CROSSFIT LEVEL 1 COACH

Megan Schipper received her BA from the University of Iowa while playing volleyball there from 2006-2010. She went on to earn her MA in Exercise Science from UNI where she also worked as a graduate assistant with the womens volleyball team. Megan was previously working for Superior Athletic Advantage, a strength and conditioning facility in the Chicago area. She competed on the KiloTrained team at the 2015 CrossFit Central Regionals, and with the CrossFit Kilo team at the 2017 CrossFit Central Regionals. Kate Bargman

BA | CROSSFIT LEVEL I COACH | MANAGER

Kate graduated from the University of Northern Iowa in 2010 with her BA in Exercise Science.  During her final semester she completed an internship with XL Sports where she was introduced to CrossFit. She has competed on the CrossFit Kilo Team at the 2013, 2014, and 2015  CrossFit North Central Regional with 1st, 2nd, and 4th place finishes respectively. She also competed on the 2014 and 2015 CrossFit Kilo Games teams. In 2015, she qualified for the USA Weightlifting American Open in Reno, NV and competed in the 63k weight class. Kyle Flickinger

BA, CROSSFIT LEVEL I COACH

Kyle graduated from the University of Northern Iowa in 2012 with his BA in Exercise Science.  During his final year he served as an assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach for the UNI soccer team. Kyle was introduced to CrossFit by a close friend in 2011 and was instantly hooked.  Kyle competed as an individual at the 2014 CrossFit North Central Regional, and on the 2015 KiloTrained and 2017 CrossFit Kilo Regionals teams.

Ben Weber

BA | CPT | CROSSFIT COACH

After high school, Ben served 6 years in the Navy Seabees before attending Wartburg College and graduating in 2017 with a degree in Fitness Management. While at Wartburg, Ben wrestled for a season before working with the team as an Assistant Strength Coach for 2 years. Ben was a multi-sport athlete in high school and has been involved in CrossFit as a competitor and coach since 2012 with experience in powerlifting before converting to CrossFit. Ben also works as a Personal Trainer and loves working 1 on 1 with Kilo members on specific technique and skills to improve their fitness.

Wes Nelson

BA | USAW | CROSSFIT COACH

Wes graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with his BA in exercise science. Prior to earning his degree from UNI, Wes served in the United States Navy as an Aviation Ordnanceman. During college, Wes completed his internship at Crossfit Kilo, and was hired on as a Kilo staff member. Wes coaches Couch to Kilo in Cedar Falls, works at KiloTrained – Waverly, and is a USAW certified sports coach. Wes loves the intensity and community of CrossFit.

Bryan

Bryan Hengesteg

BA | MA | CROSSFIT LEVEL 1 COACH

Bryan graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with his BA in exercise science in 2016 and his MA in kinesiology in 2017. While attending UNI, Bryan worked as a personal trainer as well as an assistant strength coach for the women’s soccer team. Jacob Clark 

USAW | CSS

Jacob is currently a Senior at the University of Northern Iowa studying Exercise Science. He has made the Dean’s list 5 times while at UNI. Jacob has been weightlifting since 6th grade, and was a 3 sport athlete in High School competing in Football, Wrestling, and Track. He’s worked with High School strength & conditioning programs, and is a competitive powerlifter @ 220lbs/242lbs weight class.

Jeff Stewart

BA | CROSSFIT COACH

Jeff, a former Division I track athlete at the University of Northern Iowa began Crossfit in 2013. While at UNI Jeff earned his BA is Business Management. He has served as an assistant coach for high school Cross Country and Track & Field. He also competes in Olympic distance triathlon including the Ironman. In addition to coaching and competing, Jeff works as a Sr Director of Analytics at The CBE Group.
